Big Black Dog: Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator Giveaway

March 2, 2010

Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator Giveaway

Giveaway is CLOSED.

Do you remember summer?

Feeling the warm sun and sipping cool, freshly squeezed lemonade on your patio? Well, I sure do. And planning my vegetable garden and trying to decide if I should buy some new bar stools for our pergola sure helps me cope during the last weeks of a very brutal winter.

DSCF8748-1-600

Although we had a pitiful crop of tomatoes last year, I did manage to dehydrate several dozen and grind them into a powder. The tomato powder has an intense tomato flavor and I use it in place of tomato paste in recipes and it works beautifully. I have an older Ronco Food Dehydrator which is okay except I do have to rotate the trays because my model does not have a fan to regulate the drying process. Consequently, when I was contacted by CSN to host a giveaway on my blog, and having summer on my mind, I knew exactly what I wanted to offer my readers!

Nesco/American Harvest Food Dehydrator

•Includes 5 trays
•Expandable to 7 trays
•4" fan, 425 Watts
•Top mounted fan & heater keeps dripping out
•Easy clean-up
•No tray rotation
•Strong impact resistant trays
•Vita Save Exterior blocks harmful light
•52" power cord

This food dehydrator features Nesco/American Harvest's innovative Top Mounted Powerhead that dries food quickly and evenly. Detaches to make dehydrator dishwasher safe for easy clean up. Fan-Flow Technology means faster, more even drying with no tray rotation necessary. Perfect for the beginner!

Michelle, I grew 25 heirloom tomatoes last year and many of them ended up in my old dehydrator. I did not think of grinding them into powder and using in place of paste. What a great idea. Do you rehydrate the powder before using as paste?

I had bought a dehydrator years and years ago from QVC...the first one arrived with some broken trays. They told me to toss it and they sent me another one...same thing. The 3rd one...same thing. I gave up...but between the 3 I had enough trays for 2 dehydrators and gave one to Sir Sportsalots aunt. LOL. I don't think I have mine anymore tho...it was one of those "rotate the trays" things and ended up being a pain.

What a wonderful alternative to Tomato paste Michelle!! :-D

I haven't ever used a dehydrater, but would definetly be interested in winning one and venturing forth!

Seeings how I am totally unawares what the 'stumbling' is, besides of course what this blance/vertigo issues have been making me do (o;-p) I guess I won't get extra entries for that.

I do get your postings via email notification, which I think is one of the listed extras.

I also get notification on my blog when you have posted, which I believe is another notification.

While I do have a facebook account, I haven't used it connected with blogging, so I failed that extra point.

And the only tweeting I know about is what I am so-o longing to hear my yard full of again ;-p

So I guess the only other way I can earn extra chances, is to send you additional comments to this post like Gene does ;-p

Does it count that I forwarded the email to three people?

How are you feeling today? Canned pears and cottage cheese are two additional foods which settle easy, at least they do with my stomich issues. Also vanilla pudding. Oh, and my dry Cheerios (as I'm crunch crunching ....).

I've been using my oven on the lowest setting and while it works (mostly) it is time consuming and the extra heat is not a desirable by-product unless it's very late fall.
I love the tomato idea!
