Big Black Dog: Finally out on the Porch!

June 24, 2009

Finally out on the Porch!

I've been so busy with enjoying my summer that I've not participated in Tablescape Thursdays for almost a month! I finally found a small table and chairs for our porch and I've been so enjoying it the past few weeks. Our porch is covered so even through rain storms I can sit outside and relax!

Today was the first hot day of summer and it almost reached 100 degrees. It was stifling. I did a little bit of yard work in the morning and decided to have my Iced Tea on the porch. Tinkerbelle decided to join me and what you're not seeing is she also enjoyed a few sips of my tea!

In the next village over there is a small Flea Market every Saturday and it's only about five minutes from my house. Last week I picked up some beautiful vintage tablecloths. I thought you might like to see them, freshly laundered and hanging to dry. I love them and although there's a few small stains the price, 1@$5, was not easy to pass up!

Several years ago we were in St. Maartin and I picked up these gorgeous very thick, 100% Cotton flour sack towels. They've been in storage for the longest time and I finally got around to washing them and hanging outside to dry. I love the fruit appliques. The towel furthest on the right is a vintage embroidered towel I picked up at a local church rummage sale.

I love all the old linens in this post from the one on the cozy table to the ones on the line. You are so lucky to live close to a great flea market. I am sure you will enjoy many afternoon teas out of your lovely porch. I just got my furniture out on my small porch and I know how nice it feels to use it again. I will be posting about mine all ready for the 4th of July!

Love the table clothes! Have you tried using vintage soak for the stains? It has worked well for me in the past on old lace. Your porch looks like a perfect place to sit when the thermometer spikes!

Your table on the porch is precious and I'm so jealous that you can use a clothes line where you live AND that you have a flea market so close to your home. Those linens are fabulous!

Your house is huge and your porch settings are charming. I guess the mid-Western heat is headed east. We hit the 80's today with high humidity. Not the 100's by any stretch but yucky. Linens on the line remind me of my mother.

Thanks for sending me to Between Naps on the Porch. Gorgeous stuff. Who lives like that? (obviously I don't)

Well, the porch sure looks perfect. Perfectly waiting for you after your hard work. A refreshing drink (I love iced teas, a refreshing view, and even a refreshing company who can be naughty at times (ooohhhh Tinkerbelle sipping on someone else's tea LoL)

Now, those tableclothes and towels I would love to see on my clothesline too! LoL They look pretty enough to be displayed. Is that a little baby cooking in a big pot? Or are just my sight to poor to see? :-) And those tableclothes are embroidered? That is one handiwork. Makes me wanna wish I could do embroidery and create such beautiful things :-)

Gorgeous table and the tea looks so inviting. It is so hot here. I really enjoyed the picture of the vintage tablecloths on the clothes line. It reminded me of simpler times. i remember when my Granny always hung her linens out on the line. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
